Embracing Fall Home Tour

We’re excited to participate in the Embracing Fall Home Tour as we team up with some of our favorite bloggers to share Fall decorating ideas.

As always, a special thank you to Amber of Follow the Yellow Brick Home who does a fantastic job coordinating our group and our blog hops throughout the year.

If you’re coming over from Angelina’s blog at Petite Haus, welcome, we’re excited to have you here.  Doesn’t she have such a beautiful French Country style? Seriously, swoon!

Embracing Fall in Florida…

Truth be told, Fall in Florida doesn’t feel like Fall at all.  I mean, it’s not uncommon to go to the beach and the pumpkin patch on the same weekend.

Despite the heat and humidity though, Fall is our favorite season of the year and we know so many of you love it too!

Embracing Fall Home Tour Tip: Prep Early

I usually start getting a game plan together for the Fall and Christmas seasons in the summer.

Like a lot of you, we’re busy almost every weekend and travel a good bit the last few months of the year.

I want to make sure we have our decorations up and ready to go so we can enjoy them as long as possible.

There are so many fun activities to enjoy this time of year.

It’s nice to get the decorating out of the way early.

Fall adventures are calling our names and who wants to be inside anyway, right?

Simple Ways to Decorate for Fall with Roses and Pumpkins-The Crowned Goat

Embracing Fall on the Front Porch…

Of course, we’re not able to decorate all the spaces immediately.

I never really know how we’re going to decorate the front porch year after year.

Honestly, it always depends on what color mums they have available at the garden center.

Some years we do a French Country Inpsired Fall Porch Tour.

Other years we celebrate orange mums and white mums.

For several years, they’ve had to reroute the flower truck due to a hurricane and the selection was slim.

Still, we still managed to find a color we’d never used before which is always exciting.

Each year, we celebrate our “mum haul” with dinner and Starbucks.

After all, it’s a special event we look forward to each season and the little things definitely deserve to be celebrated.

Truthfully, I love mums and if it were up to me, we’d have gobs of them inside and outside the house.

But since we have to live here and no one wants to move or bump into mums every day, we do our best to keep our Fall decorating pretty simple.

Embracing Fall Home Tour Tip: Simple Decorating Ideas…

Storage space is at a premium in this island cottage.

So each year, I take our Fall decorations down from the attic and repurpose them in a fresh way.

We stick with a tight color palette so all the common areas in our home flow seamlessly.

It’s a really easy way to keep a cohesive look each season.

And bonus, it cuts down on decision fatigue when we’re shopping too!

I mean, there are so many pretty and shiny things in the stores right now.

It can get overwhelming if you don’t have a solid game plan, you know?

Embracing Fall with Color and Texture…

Once we have the basics in place, we start layering in color and texture.

We collect vintage fabrics and blankets throughout the year at thrift stores, estate sales, and charity shops.

They’re really easy to use in place of a table runner.

Blankets and vintage fabrics are also just as easy to throw over a chair or even a bale of hay if you’re hosting people an outdoor movie night or a festive Fall party.

Embracing Fall Home Tour Tip: Using Pumpkins and Natural Elements…

Our last embracing Fall home tour tip is to bring it all together with pumpkins and other natural elements.

It was fun to use cotton in our seasonal decorating.

The fields are covered with blooms on our way to the mountains each Fall and it’s always such an amazing sight to see.

I mixed cotton picks with store-bought garlands for a natural and simple table runner in our breakfast nook.

You can find Easy Fall Tablescape Ideas here.

My aunt was super sweet to let me borrow her vintage equestrian plates.

I’m going to have a hard time giving them back 🙂

Of course, we couldn’t celebrate Fall without a pumpkin spice latte.

We love coffee any time of the day and pumpkin is one of our favorite flavors.

Especially, when we’re feeling really indulgent and making spice cake donut with cream cheese frosting.

I hope these fall decorating tips have helped!

My wish for you this Fall is that you’ll make time for what’s most important to you, be it incorporating fresh routines, exploring new opportunities, tackling an action-packed bucket list, or welcoming friends and family into your home.

Fall is the perfect time to embrace change and new beginnings no matter how your home is decorated.

Be sure to stop by and see my sweet friend and fellow treasure hunter, Linda from Itsy Bits and Pieces. She’s up next on the Embracing Fall Home Tour!

Once you’re finished there, be sure to check out the rest of the fabulous and creative ladies as well…

    1. Thank you so much for all your kind words, Debra! The minute I saw those plates I knew I had to find a way to use them in our Fall decor this year. We grew up with my Mom telling us of all her adventures on Nelly which always sounded so magical. We all ride now and our love of equestrian things hasn’t changed over the years. In fact, sometimes I have to “reign” it in because this house could easily look like a tack house with mums on the porch, of course 🙂 Sending you big hugs for a fun Fall season, CoCo

The elevated pumpkin centerpiece is amazing! Bravo! Happy Fall!

    1. You’re so sweet, Chloe, thank you! Our lives outside of these walls can get pretty hectic so neutrals will always be my first love. Having a game plan helps with our budget too because #mums 🙂 Sending you big hugs for a happy day, CoCo

    1. Thank you so much Cecilia! This was the first time we’ve used purple mums because they’re not usually available in our area either. I almost always go to the garden center with a “big plan” but wind up having to change it based on mum color and availability. I think that’s what keeps me on my toes though 🙂 Hope your having a fabulous Fall season, CoCo

  15. Fabulous tour and design tips Coco! As a Kentucky girl I am always swooning over your equestrian touches! Interestingly enough the Queen of England had several of her prize show horses in Lexington, KY for many years and would come here to visit them. I seriously am going to start hunting for those plates! Our bedroom has some equestrian touches, I have always loved that look.

Your porch is gorgeous as always! Enjoy your Pumpkin Spice Latte in your flip-flops!

Thank you for embracing fall with us!

    1. Oh my word, Amber, I would have been stalking those horses/barn/handlers like nobody’s business waiting for the Queen to visit – that is so cool! Our hometown is super tiny so the fact that my aunt’s plates have been a big hit has her all kinds of tickled 🙂 Thank you so much for all your kind words and for putting together these blog hops. Everyone in the group is special. You are greatly appreciated! Hugs and happy Fall, CoCo

  16. Hi CoCo!
You’ve done it again! Your home is beautiful, all decorated for fall. I love those equestrian plates. Maybe you can work out a deal with your aunt. 😉 The goes so well with the picture in your dining room. All of your pumpkin arrangements are lovely too. My husband and I wear our flipflops at Thanksgiving here in Virginia also. There has to be snow on the ground before I give up my flipflops, and even then, I’ve been caught wearing them. Haha – true story. Thanks so much for sharing at Homestyle Gathering! Love having you at the party!
    >>> Kim

    1. Oh my gosh, Kim, yeah for Team Flip Flop ha ha! It’s so hard to even know what to wear from year to year, right? I want the boots/sweater/cider sipping experience just one time 🙂 Thank you so much for your sweet and kind words on our Fall home tour. It’s been so much fun decorating for the season. I can hardly believe it will be time to pack it all up and get ready for Christmas soon. This year is flying by! Hugs, CoCo

  17. Jann Olson says:

    happy fall,
    Jann

    1. You are so kind, Jann, thank you! It was really fun to decorate with some family pieces this year. The wheat dishes belonged to my late Granny and the equestrian plates are my aunts. It’s always fun to decorate for the different seasons but this year was especially fun thanks to their treasures 🙂

  18. Oh my, everything is so beautiful! Those mums on the porch are gorgeous!

    -Emily

    1. I really appreciate it Emily, thank you! I don’t know what it was about those purple mums but as soon as I saw them I knew I had to use them on the porch. My only regret was that I couldn’t find a way to get them to grow inside the house 🙂 Hope your Fall season has been amazing, CoCo

  20. Hi Coco!

Your home is absolutely beautiful! I really enjoyed reading your post and getting so much inspiration! I love the color palate throughout your home! Your aunt was so sweet to lend her equestrian plates! I loved them! and I agree, they will be hard to give back!

    1. Such a sweet compliment, Larissa, thank you! I get lost in your posts all the time. Your home is gorgeous. Our hometown is super tiny so my aunt has been tickled pink over the response to her equestrian plates. She found them in an antique store in a neighboring town and they’ve been a hit ever since 🙂 Hope you and your family are having such a great time this Fall! Hugs, CoCo

  21. Coco, I love every single space that you’ve created. The soft greens mixed with the white pumpkins have such a natural vibe. The horse plates are very special and you’ve used them so well on your gorgeous table. Everything is exquisite. Such relaxing spaces for enjoying family time.

    1. Thank you so much Carol, I really appreciate your sweet words. It’s been fun to decorate for the Fall season this year and I’m so thankful my aunt let me borrow all her plates. Shopping her house is like shopping at the best antique store ha ha. She’s has gobs of goodies 🙂 Hugs, CoCo

  22. CoCo your Fall decor is just beautiful and I’m hoping Fall finds it’s way to Florida quickly! I too love mums and I have t say your purple ones are just gorgeous! Blessings on your week my friend!

    1. Thank you so much Kelly! Can you believe we found purple mums? It was so much fun to use a bold pop of color on the porch this year because normally color is outside my comfort zone. We’re finally to the upper 80s which basically feels like a cold front is coming through Florida 🙂 Sending you big hugs, CoCo

    1. I really appreciate your sweet words, Christy, thank you so much! Hugs, CoCo

  23. Hi CoCo! Your home looks so beautiful all decked out for fall! I love the neutral palette, and enjoy seeing how you incorporate pumpkins and mums into your decor! I’m still getting used to these crazy temperatures in Florida and can’t wait for it to cool down!

  24. I absolutely adored your purple mums you placed around the front entry… and your homemade donuts with cream cheese frosting are simply tantalizing!

  25. It’s fabulous that you make a whole day and celebration when getting your mums. I can also relate to your decorating dilemma when you don’t know what colors will be available or if there will be any mums at all (due to truck re-routing).
Every year, I buy mums in early September because I love the white ones. If I wait even a week later – they are all gone. Crazy right??
Anyway, I am sending you some cool fall temperatures so that you can sleep with a window open at night.

  26. Your home is beautiful! I love the colors you are using for fall. I love the soft colors over the oranges. As usual, it is all put together so well! Thanks for the inspiration!

  27. So very true about fall in Florida, it is definitely a challenge decorating the front porch to look like fall when the weather is hot. You have done a great job both inside as well as the outside.
